Wow, I went here for the first time in years and it was a much better experience! They are cleaner with better service and food. And when the kitchen messed up our order and made us wait 30+ minutes for food, the waitress apologized profusely, gave us free ice cream and gave us the delayed meal for free.

Late night takeout food and fast BUT it was very mediocre and kind of expensive. :/ I just wanted some fries and gravy to go with some fresh cheese curds I had just bought at the Elegant Farmer. That worked out and tasted good, but my boyfriend's French toast was rubbery and blah. They didn't put utensils in the bag, but they put a bunch of other random condiments in there. I ordered a couple other things because I was tired and didn't know how hungry I was, but they were awful, so I tossed them. The potato pancakes weren't how I expected. They were actually pancakes made out of potato bread, not the hash brown patty-like delights that I'm used to. Yuck. They were tasteless and soggy. And the chorizo scramble doesn't use fresh Mexican chorizo but something in a can that is cooked within a fried egg with avocado (which was the only part that was good). Gross! Maybe I just ordered the wrong things, but I just get the feeling this place is mediocre across the board. :/ Freshly squeezed orange juice. That's pretty much why the 2 stars...

I've only been to Simon's for the cake and they do not disappoint. The Swiss chocolate cake is easily my favorite and a perfect midnight snack. The key lime pie is the only dessert item I would avoid, it's really dense and not very tart. Based solely on dessert Simon's is worth your time

The coffee was so hot, fresh & delicious! I drank mine black and I very rarely drink my coffee black! It was so tasty, it didn't need cream!! I ordered the French onion soup because a pic here on yelp spoke to me. It delivered what the pic promised! The cheese was melted to perfection and the croutons were soft, but not soggy. I love skillets with hash browns verses home potatoes, so this was perfect! I didn't need salt (as I usually add to my eggs). There was a lot of food for the price. I'd say definitely worth the value!

With more than a decade worth of eating here, I can say this place is a childhood favorite. The only thing is when they kind of renovated and changed a lot of things in the store, a lot of the quality in the food and service went down. It really doesn't feel like a little family owned restaurant anymore and the food is usually bland or not cooked correctly. I once got a grilled cheese where the cheese wasn't even melted but two slices of cheese on toasted bread. Not very good. Plus everything is way more expensive than it used to be or needs to be. It's really disheartening to say the least. The plus is that my all time favorite soup growing up is still my all time favorite soup now. The cream of chicken rice soup here is to die for and I could eat it all day everyday. Sad about what the place has become, but I still come in for my soup.

Stopped in for breakfast through the week. We were greeted by a cheery young lady at the front and promptly brought to a booth. I was pleased with how clean the place looked. Our waitress came over promptly to get our order. I ordered a skillet, and they definitely did this right. The ratio of potato to other ingredients was perfect. Many restaurants use way too many potatoes...probably because they're cheaper. I also like the fact that it wasn't overly greasy. Some restaurants literally have a ring of grease around the edge of the skillet, which always disgusts me. The eggs on top were cooked perfectly over-easy...no runny white, just runny yolk. The coffee was pretty good as well. This is a no-frills, price-is-right type of place. Good for every day dining.

Love this place. Been here quite a few times for breakfast and lunch, including this morning. I can't recall a time I've been here and been disappointed with either my food or service. I Love the breakfast more than the lunch. And they're pretty efficient. I've been here some times when they were packed and they still managed to get my food out to me relatively quickly.

Went there last night for a quick meal. I was pleasantly surprised at how good our food was. Service was top notch as well.

Skillets are amazing! I have only ate breakfast here but if the rest of their menu is as good, it's a keeper!! Garden skillet this morning.. OMG!

The food was great but I wasn't pleased with being followed to the parking lot and asked if I paid my bill. Yes I paid. You have a copy of the receipt. #tacky

Horrible service. I waited 40 minutes for my food (a buffalo chicken wrap) & it wasn't until I flagged down my waitress did she tell me they messed up my order so it would be "just a little more time" the manager said there was nothing they could do & that "it happens". 40 minutes & no food? Unacceptable for a little family restaurant when there are plenty of more places just like that down the street. Would not go back after being treated so rudely by the owner.

Simons was disappointing. The waitress was nice enough. But that's about the end of the positive things I have to say about it. My wife got a skillet. The thing was a blob of melted cheese on too of soggy hash-browns. It wasn't hot, just kind of warm. And hers was the good meal. I got the eggs Benedict. Ugh. I'm getting sick just thinking about it. The hollandaise sauce broke, which isn't the end of the world. But it tasted so sour. Too much lemon juice maybe? But when the sauce breaks (which makes for a very unappealing presentation) AND it tastes sour... You've basically served me baby vomit. So I never send food back. I usually just eat and decide to not come back if I'm not happy. This was so bad I had to. They just brought me another just like it. :( PRO TIP: someone needs to be managing the quality of the food. I understand this is a family business, but either do a good job, or find another.

Simon's is a good old mainstay in villa park. However I have to say it's a bit "hit or miss". When it's good, it's fabulous, but sometimes it's just blah. They do have (again, when they're "on") some of the best cream of chicken soup you'll find anywhere. It comes with a small half loaf of bread that you must butter and dip in the soup. :) I believe a hidden bit of great food there is the stuffed pita with chicken salad or tuna salad. When it's fresh and done right the pita is hot and fresh and the salad is creamy and delicious. We have about a 50/50 experience here in the past couple years. I would never say it's ever utterly inedible when it's bad (maybe once), but if you're not willing to take a gamble you may want to avoid. It'd be a shame to miss the soup though!

I was very dissapointed with the rude waitress we got. Not only did she turn in our order wrong, but charged us for the wrong (more expensive item). We were never approached again after receiving the wrong food and when our concerns were brought up to the manager, waitress argued back while manager stood back watching; nothing was resolved nor an apology given. We never gave them attitude or a reason to be mistreated as paying/loyal customers. I am a regular and love this place, but with our last experience I won't be coming back. Poor consideration and managerial skills! So long! Simons!!

I dont know what happened to Simons over the last year or so, it seems to me like it changed owners. Not what it used to be, the last 3 times we were there and I think today might have been the last try. Walked into their vestibule and it smelled funky, the floors were slippery in that not feeling clean sort of way. The food was below average at best, over seasoned, not even plated the same way as before. Before it was a contender for 5 stars, one of the best Greek coffee shops around. It used to be crowded at all hours, now, 6pm, crickets, so I dont think its just us.

I love Simon's. Okay, I might be a little biased because I grew up in Villa Park and it's a local institution - but I stand by my rating! Simon's has done a lot to improve over the years! If you're in the mood for good, old-fashioned, classic, stick-to-your-ribs, simple-yet-tasty, staple diner food - Simon's is the place to go. Open early and open late, this place has food for you whether you're an early bird or a night owl. If you're looking for diner food that's one (or a couple) step above the rest, Simon's is the go-to. It's upscale diner food at its best - at least in the Villa Park area... The staff is friendly, the eating areas are clean, they've recently remodeled and updated, and the place is never empty. The walls and shelves are decorated in art and little knickknacks that give the restaurant a comfy, homey, country feel. They decorate for holidays, which is nice and festive, and they have a great covered patio for outdoor dining beside flower planters and a fountain. The menu is HUGE, and offers everything from diner classics to healthier food options, too. They have specials for every meal, make their own Greek yogurt in-house, and the food is rarely disappointing. The servers are attentive even when they're full to the rafters with customers - which is often, especially on weekends. The turnover for tables is quick and if you order your food to-go it's never an overly long wait. Their dessert case is full of all kinds of tasty options that change all the time: cheesecakes, pies, cakes, cookies, frosted pastries, rice pudding, and more I'm sure! I LOVE Simon's, and as long as it continues to love me back, I'll continue going here and suggesting it to my friends!

I only go here for the breakfast. I am definitely a fan. Wish they had more breakfast combos available that include french toast, that would make it even better for me. Wont stop going there though, will continue to try and beg them to substitute pancake combo platters for french toast. Their skillets are super filling.

I've eaten breakfast here a bunch of times and it is always so delicious and the servers are so nice. They have the best hash browns I've ever had, and really good crepes. I would highly recommend popping in for a quick meal. I've only been around for lunch/dinner service a few times and it seems to run significantly slower but not to an unacceptable degree.

Burnt hash brown + burnt onions = not a very tasteful skillet. This is my first time here so maybe I'll give it another chance. My servers were very nice and accommodating. I left and can still taste the burnt onions in my mouth :(. On a plus side, their berry jam was very good.

Service is usually pretty good. Breakfast is great. Most lunch/dinner entrees are good. Portions are large. I like their homemade soup. They serve beer and wine. It gets crowded on weekends for breakfast. Prices are reasonable.

If I could give it a zero I would. Came in for steak and eggs. Asked for rare first time. the steak was so cooked to shit so bad you could hardly cut through it. Asked for a rare steak like I ordered and they came out with a piece of meat that had been seared only and was raw. RAW! the manager George came over and started arguing and causing a scene. He was screaming that I didn't know what I was talking about and he was calling the police. The police were called and I had to pay for the steak but believe me I will never ever ever step foot in this unprofessional no pride no customer service having place. Disgusted.

Have you ever been called by a pet name at an employee at a business and been a little weirded out? Well if that bothers you then keep your distance from Simon's Restaurant. Before I go over the food, the decor, the service or anything else I have to address this first. It seems that all of the waitresses at Simon's adopt the policy that everyone's name is "honey". It's just a little off putting to say the least. My initial reaction to this was similar to the first time I visited Chick-Fil-A and heard "my pleasure" repeated over and over. I wanted to ask "Really, you get off on putting extra sauce packets in my bag? Well if that's your kink". It just creates a level of awkwardness that could otherwise be avoided. Simon's is a diner/pancake place located off of Roosevelt Road in Villa Park. They're almost directly across the street from Kappy's. While the decor on the inside is certainly nicer than their competitor across the street, and the seats are more comfortable they're definitely not as busy. When I came into Simon's there was only one other customer and two waitresses walking around, I stood for about two minutes before being recognized and got my table. Fortunately, from there on out they were very responsive providing refills, asking how everything was and calling me and everyone within a several mile radius "honey". I ordered the Incredible Gypsy Skillet which is a variation of their regular gypsy skillet. The good news is the food was solid, there was a good variety of different ingredients, the eggs were well prepared, the potatoes were still soft and not too crispy, there was a nice combination of peppers. It was a well seasoned good tasting skillet that left me feeling very full at the end of my meal. Was it the best skillet I've ever had? Certainly not, but it was above average for sure. Overall I liked Simon's though was a bit weirded out by the calling of everyone honey. I half expected them to end it with "I shrunk the kids" at some point just to mix it up.

Service was poor, food was dangerously undercooked and way over priced. Order was wrong. Management couldn't care less. Ordered hot tea and was given a large pot of hot water with 1 Lipton brand tea bag. When I asked for another, I was charged $2.50 for another Lipton teabag. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The parking lot is always full that is true. The homemade soups are always delicious. My family loves Cream of chicken rice. It is always on the menu. My kids favorite part of the dinning experience is the complementary soft serve at the end.

I stopped here for to satisfy my sweet tooth since they advertise dessert on their flashy billboard. I ordered a slice of cheesecake with strawberries. When they bought it by it looked... old. Still, I tried a bite and sure enough, there was a film around the outside of the cake. It took on the look of a piece of cheddar that's been exposed to air too long. Inside of the hard film, the cheesecake just didn't taste good. It was not homemade and I don't even want to know how long it was in that display case. I gave Simon's a 2 star rating because I haven't actually tried their food outside of that cheesecake.

Almost as good as my mom's cooking. One of those restaurants that really knocks the ball out of the ballpark with service/food. Been a family favorite for years now. Outdoor patio is wonderful and their desserts are too die for. Don't think I've ever had a bad meal/experience here ever. Not necessarily a place for office lunches though as I leave that for Oakbrook mall area restaurants.

I have been going to Simon's for years and its always a great breakfast. I went a couple of weeks ago and it was so good. Large portions and really good coffee. The prices are quite good and the service is always with a smile.

Typical Greek restaurant It's like Omega when it was the original owners. Huge portions and great quality food Carafe of water on table Immediate greeting and ample seating space. Soup is always good Too much food to eat at once- always have to ask for a box to go. Good service depending on the person you get. They have incredibly good looking desserts but I have never been able to try them!

To my surprise, Simon's was actually very pleasant. Of the few times I have been here, the food and service has been great. A little on the pricey side but it's good food.

Super nice wait staff! Good breakfast, however I spilt my Bloody Mary, which was full, and they failed to replace it and made me pay for it. I'm a server & I know we honor our guests' spills & accidents. Come on management! :(

Have received cold food twice here. Last and final time going we had fajitas and when we needed extra tortillas they wanted to charge an extra $1.25. Absolutely ridiculous especially when we only received 3 between the 2 of us.

First let me say THEY GIVE U FREE SOFT SERVE ICECREAM. Then I'd like to say this place has been our spot for years. Whenever my friends are in town we eat here. Omelettes are yummy and the hash browns are crispy perfect but not over done. Highly recommend.

Spur of the moment after work chow with a friend you haven't seen in ages is something to look forward to. When he suggested Simon's I said, "see you at 6". Then I wondered, after an equally long period of time, how the food was fairing there. Spur of the moment food that comes through when you least expect it is something to write home about ... our dinner was pretty darn good. We both ordered what is called the Greek chicken, but the correct lingo on it is the "45 minute chicken". While waiting the 45, there was plenty of time to catch up on gossip over the standard dinner salad and rolls. Though fresh, it was okay but lacked the solid dark greens and heavy veggie component that I always look forward to. But, whether Greek or 45 minute, it turns out the entree we selected more than compensated for the mediocre salad. This thing had the taste and feel of being marinated and slow cooked. with a decent crusting of herbs. The dinner came with roasted potatoes and a nice serving of grilled veggies. Redemption! It was a very good meal and the amount you get sends you home with more than enough for a second dinner, which was a good value. My friend opted for dessert ... yes, rice pudding. But I have to say that this was not sweet or gummy, it was just as slow cooked as the chicken and heavy on the cinnamon. (I had to grab a spoonful for verification purposes.) Though this restaurant is not a spot for ambiance, it definitely is a spot for a nice get together and a nice meal.

We used to go there often but the last time I was there I ate half of my cheese omelette when I found a long hair cooked right into the cheese. When I complained they said they can make another one but I was really disgusted so I refused..but they still charged me! I asked to speak to a manager and she told me I would have to at least pay for half because I ate half. I will never be back.

Great service, always friendly and fast. food is generous, but quality of food can vary greatly. Breakfast Omellettes are delicious, dessert is sub par and often stale. Seafood is average.

Greek-style diner with all the offerings you would expect from breakfast, burgers, chicken, and pasta. Large salads and a great assortment of desserts. The best carrot cake I have ever had it was so soft and cream cheese icy perfect sweetness. Not a huge bargain, but for the quality it's worth the extra bucks. :)

I've been going to Simons for 10 years. Their food slowly gets worse and worse. And their customer service is nowadays nonexistent. I was first in line and ordered a pint of soup which was surprising not watered down this time. But tell me why the older man at the front desk brings me my order and then rings up the man behind me! And then proceeds to sit down a table of three as I'm waiting first in line! If this was the first time, I could easily forgive and move past it, but this has happened plenty of times and I can no longer ignore it. Omega is my new place!

  • Sylvia B.

I came to this place because I have heard that the food is great. Too bad I didn't get to taste it! I waited 20 minutes for our server to come and take our drink order and nobody showed up. So, we decided to leave this place and go to Denny's instead. The restaurant was not even that busy so I don't understand why we were being ignored. And its not just our table. There was a table that sat down 5 minutes after us and they did not get served either. Bad bad bad!

    (1)
  • Betsy L.

This place was just awful. Imagine an older Perkins that has a HUGE menu but none of it is made well. We went for lunch and I imagine they do a much better breakfast. I got a Ruben that was mushy, salty and not well made. Cakes and pies looked okay. We didn't get though.

    (2)
  • Jess C.

If you're looking for a nice sit down restaurant that cooks old school, then this place is for you. I have tried a few things from their menu and they didn't have much flavor. HOWEVER, with that being said, their Creamy Chicken soup with Rice is the best soup to have on a rainy day or any day!

  • Ray T.

Usually when a parking lot is full around lunch time, you expect a good lunchtime crowd and good food and good service. Simon's does not disappoint. Our lunch time fare consisted of a Chicken Melt and a Russian Reuben. Both came with fries and a cup of soup with bread and crackers on the table. The bread was decent, the soups, better, the crackers, stale. The navy bean soup the wife had was tasty enough as was the chicken soup I had. The waitress says "home made," but I say "restaurant-made." Real homemade soups have much more substance to them. It was fun eating the chicken soup ... noodles kept sliding off the spoon ... needed the bread to get them to stay on the spoon long enough to reach the mouth. The freis were okay, nothing special. The chicken melt - chicken, bacon and cheese - was acceptable. I should have had the patty melt. The chicken was cooked just right, but the flavor combination isn't one I care to repeat. The Reuben was good. The place was busy, the service was friendly and efficient, the restaurant clean. People seemed happy and the prices were very reasonable. This is a restaurant that needs us to try more items off the menu.

Was it perfect? No. Was the service astounding? No. However - the price point, the menu variety, the cleanliness - perfect, standard Greek/American family restaurant execution! I will say this - they need to put better cheese on their sandwiches. You can tell it's bulk American-style cheese. For the prices, I think a decent slice of Cheddar or Colby - even pre-sliced packaged stuff - would really take things up a welcome step. (I had the grilled ham and cheese.) Also - my wife noted that $1.39 for adding cheese to the top of onion soup felt like we were being nickled and dimed. I explained that cheese in that quantity can be expensive - but, from a business perspective - I've always preferred that the management figures out how many of each soup variety they sell, and balance the price out. Then nobody notices, and nobody feels slighted. Small complaints, however - we've lived nearby for nearly a year, and are sorry we hadn't been here sooner! In fact... we might head over there right now...

Simon's is an extremely nice diner with Greek & American favorites! Great selection! We've even gone to Simon's on holidays! Their homemade chicken noodle soup is a staple at our house when anyone is sick. It definitely has healing powers... ; ) Hobo Skillet is my favorite with buttermilk pancakes! We love our regular waitress Jacklyn! She's wonderful!

Here's the back story.... Several years ago my boyfriend used to manage Kappy's and I would stop in on a regular basis to visit and eat dinner ( at Kappy's). I kind of grew tired of the same old same old food and atmosphere and wanted to try out Simon's for a change of pace. Well little did I know that I made their arch rival black list of people whom they hated who are "affiliated" with Kappy's (due to bizarre thoughts of what maybe I'd steal a recipe, a menu, I mean really, WTF!?). He was the manager, had NOTHING TO DO WITH ME!!! So I went there oh about 7 or 8 times and liked the different meals I tried and the service was good. Moving on to my last visit there... It was a Friday morning and I had already placed my order and was on my second cup of coffee reading the paper. I must have been engrossed because I didn't see the woman even approach my table before I realized she was sitting across from me. I look up at her, a little confused and caught off guard. She starts spewing,,, " I know who you are and I don't know why you've been coming in here recently..... ( She must have worked herself up pretty good because it came out fast and like a speech she prepared).....I'd like to pick up your check and have this be the last time you ever come in, ever again!" " Like I said, I don't know what you want or what you're up to but just finish your breakfast, I'll pick up the tab and have this be your last visit!" I said NOTHING in response because I didn't even know what to say to her. Like a deer in headlights! I immediately called over the server, tipped her and left. I wasn't about to eat this woman's " free" meal knowing how she felt about me. Sorry, I'm not dumb! So my review WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 stars because they have good food and good servers but they get a ONE because it seems they have so much business that they turn away paying customers with a MOTIVE of only a good meal. Weird owners!!!!

We love Simon's. They have good food at decent prices. The owners (or his sons) (I'm not really sure) are always at the register and always extremely friendly. They have the best soup. And in case you were wondering, why yes, they do sell it by the quart. And they start serving it at about 10:30. Ya know, just in case your husband is obsessed with Cream of Chicken soup like mine... you might want to know these things. I usually get a club, because I'm not all that adventurous, however I've had a lot of the breakfast and dinner items on their menu and I've never been disappointed. Our service is always good, although some waitresses are totally excellent and others are just good, none are bad. I've never had a bad experience at this place. Not one time. And we come here more than any person ever should.

We come here for breakfast/brunch on Sundays. The place is packed but we are always so impressed with how we usually don't have a wait, the food comes out super quickly and is great quality. Fantastic servers too. Best omelettes around!

Love, love, love. I grew up going to Greek restaurants, and this one is the best. We've never gotten poor attitudes from the staff, the food is delicious, they've been willing to make something in the evening that's only on the morning "special" menu, etc. We used to travel from the far west side of Chicago to go, now we travel from Batavia. My kids ask for it by name. And we pass 20 others on the way. Thanks for keeping the "healthy" crepes on the menu and for making your own yogurt for it. Some other restaurants are trying to copy by either not using the yogurt at all or using store bought (yuck!).

What an amazing surprise this place was! Nestled against the parking lot of the most nondescript strip mall in the most nondescript part of DuPage County, on a ho-hum stretch of Roosevelt Road, you'd expect Simon's to be the quintessential suburban diner: brown, hot, and plenty of it. Not so, my friend. Not so. Now, I've only eaten there once, so maybe I just got lucky and happened to pick the jackpot on their breakfast menu. But good Lord, their potato pancakes are out-of-this-world fantastic. Grated potato spiked with onion, beautifully seasoned, and just enough flour, egg and milk to bind it together: these are some delicious, substantial cakes. My order came with three pancakes, each about 5" across and a half inch thick. With syrup and a side of sausage, it was a good a breakfast as I've had anywhere.

I am out of commission today, surgery. No cooking...... Simon's for family breakfast. My 5 year old's favorite, $4.99 for 8-10 silver dollar pancakes with bacon on the kid's menu. The husbands favorite, the steak skillet. He complains if we go someplace else for breakfast "can't we just go to Simon's???". I had the patty melt deluxe which means with fries and soup. Their fries are not so good but their soups are made from scratch and usually excellent. The cream of chicken rice has obtained cult status. Everything on this menu is fresh and home made. The restaurant is clean and the service is usually good. Good choices: Crepes ala Simon with fresh strawberries and anything Greek including rice pudding. Bad choices: Anything Italian or from the dessert case. I am reading my review it doesn't sound like a 4 star review. The reason being is I have ordered enough on the menu over the years to know it a little too intimately. Order accordingly and enjoy.

Hi ho, hi ho it's off to Simon's we go (whistles), hi ho, hi ho, hi ho, hi ho ... This is what I sing in the shower when my hubs and I decide to go to Simon's for breakfast in the morning. I'm not sure what it is about this place. It's not fancy, it's your typical greek diner restaurant. Service is great, food is great, comforting and filling. Just what you would expect from a restaurant like this. If you want simple great, tummy bursting food with good service and good coffee, then come here to eat and relax. I also ordered 7 pounds of ham for Christmas from this place and it was great. Very nice lean non fatty cuts with a yummy glaze. My newest go to ham spot when the line is nuts over at honey baked ;)

Good breakfast, good coffee, good soup, decently quick service. It's your classic Greek style restaurant that serves everything from breakfast to dessert. I'd say better than Omega (on Ogden) or IHOP. Nice place to come on the weekend for hungover breakfast.

Been coming to Simon's for years, this place serves up really good breakfast. Everything I have had here is great, you always get a pitcher of water and complimentary orange juice. If you go there during lunch, you get complimentary soft serve ice cream. They have really good creamy chicken rice soup. My husbands likes coming here because they have really good coffee and lots of flavored creamers. He thinks thier omlettes are hands down the best. My favorite breakfast options here are the breakfast sourdough sandwich and their banana pancakes. The waitresses are always super friendly and attentive. We have never had to kick any food back because it was wrong or just wasn't right. Great for families and groups. 5 stars!!

Please take this review within the context of the restaurant. If you're not familiar, Simon's is a diner. Nothing fancy, no frills -- a diner. Based on that, it's three-stars, but it's not a three-star restaurant -- get my drift? I guess I'm just trying to say I had my expectations in-line when visiting this place, and you should too if you plan to stop by. I've eaten here several times, and most things have been good. The side-salad left a bit to be desired, but what was I thinking ordering a salad at a diner? Stick with the soups -- most of them have been pretty good. The rice pudding is good. I did get some kind of chicken, basil, garlic sandwich that wasn't so great, but other than that, everything else has been good. My wife loves their belgian waffles. Also, their soft serve ice cream is surprisingly good. Portions are big. For me, stand-outs would be the roasted turkey dinner or the roasted pork loin dinner.

This is your basic, standard diner-y place. Smaller menu than some like it but still a wide variety of things to choose from. Food quality is a bit better than you might expect - super crispy grilled cheese and the soup is rather tasty. Also I would rather have soft serve from here than Dairy Queen or any other place that serves it. Super vanilla deliciousness. And I liked that we got two big carafes of water on the table rather than having to wait for someone to come refill us every time we ran out in the dinky glasses. There was a very large party that must have come in right before we did and it made our stuff take a while to come out but our server was kind enough to keep up informed of the wait. In general, not bad in a pinch and some good items to try.

Simon's is a pretty typical Greek diner...decent food, decent service, and decent prices. They were actually packed at 12:30 on a Friday (doesn't ANYONE work during the day around here?!?) so they must be doing something right. The portion sizes are huge, so go hungry. I had the Baked French Onion soup and the bleu cheese bacon burger which were surprisingly good. The bacon was nice and thick and crispy and they LOADED the burger with broiled bleu cheese. YUM. You also get free ice cream after your meal but I declined. Next time you're feeling gluttonous, give Simon's a try.

Used to be good when first opened. Service is very poor. We don't go there and tell our friends about it. Sad indeed.

DINE IN FOOD: Greasy. I ordered the steak and egg breakfast. The steak came out overcooked and all of the food was really greasy. I can tolerate IHOP and Denny's kind of grease, but it was so greasy that it affected the taste and my digestion. DINE IN SERVICE: Not only was it unsatisfactory, I was offended. In addition to an overcooked steak, my server took entirely too long to come check on me. I had to flag her down as she was poking around in her section avoiding eye contact with me. She also didn't seem to understand my request that the overcooked steak be taken away and a new steak be cooked properly, but boxed to go because I didn't have time to sit around for another 30 minutes to finish my meal. Instead, she implied that I was trying to get a second steak for free and that she would not fulfill my request. Never, in all of the years I ever waited tables, did I EVER accuse a customer of trying something like that. I am polite, friendly, and make every effort to articulate my requests clearly. I can honestly say that her service was one really compelling reason for me to not go back. TAKE OUT: I was craving a burger and onion rings late at night. I would rate the amount of grease in my meal greater than a Sonic Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster combo with Onion Rings. I would rate the taste of my meal as one of the most forgettable and bland in recent years. OVERALL: If you want cheap and greasy, I hear Kappy's, just across the cross street, is on par with Simon's. Outback and Anyway's are both a stone's throw from Kappy's if you want to upgrade your dining experience. You're not missing anything to pass Simon's up. In fact, if you're looking for a local IHOP/Denny's style experience, give Maxfield's a try. It's 1.5 miles west of Simon's. The food and service there was great.

For me, the food was great, but one in our party was very upset with the waiter because the food served was incorrect and the waiter refused to acknowledge it. I was satisfied, he was not. The incident was upsetting to say the least. Others in our party had great food, but didn't understand the mix-up.

Are you looking for diner food, yes? Well you have come to the right place! Welcome to the diner-y diner food you could ever want. What I like about Simon's is that they definitely don't skimp on essential ingredients. For example, my spinach and feta omelet definitely had about 1.5 oz of feta IN it along with an acceptable amount of spinach. Try getting those kinds of portions at Country Kitchen! My Nutella Crepes were smothered in Nutella, just as they should be! Coffee flows readily from your server, if you're polite and nice. (and just in case you did not eat enough fat, grease and salt with dinner -- ice cream is complimentary at the end of your meal.)

Simon's is pretty much your typical Greek-owned restaurant. The menu boasts the typical breakfast fare, sandwiches, salads, dinner specials and the lovely pastry case in the front of the restaurant. Besides the pastry case, you'll find a case filled with bone-in hams. My review today is based on breakfast. My breakfast club gals and I met this morning at Simon's. Breakfast is available all day and I often will order breakfast when dining there later in the day. Today the orders included a bacon omelet, scrambled eggs with sausage, sunny-side up eggs with bacon, and a single scrambled egg; all came with hash-browns and toast. My breakfast was a slice of ham off the bone sandwiched between two pancakes, topped with two eggs, over medium. We all accepted the offer of a complimentary small orange juice. Three of us had coffee and one had hot tea. The total, including tax for the five of us was $40.55. Pretty darn good price for all that food. The eggs were all cooked as ordered, the hash browns weren't undercooked and everyone was happy. I would definitely order the ham encased in pancakes again.

Just had the best time here they made us fill at home, something you don't get in most places!! My lil One enjoy the pasta and could not stop eating the ice cream.. I loved the soup and the staff!!

Simon's is your run of the mill Greek diner. Met a friend here for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and while they seemed busy, we didn't have to wait for a table! Yay! I ordered the pancakes, they definitely don't skimp on the food, my "short stack" was totally filling. They just came out a bit more "well done" than I would have preferred. You also get a free small OJ in the morning..... side note... it's different than the "fresh squeezed" OJ that you can order.

  • David R.

The service is very good. A small glass of Orange juice in the morning and the dish of ice cream is a nice touch. They make you feel welcome. The menu selection is not overwhelming. The food is good too.

  • Mintcho M.

The lighting is on the uncomfortably bright side throughout the entire diner. It would be nice if the southern part had softer lighting and a more cozy decor. Otherwise, this diner consistently serves generous portions of great tasting food.

  • Osiris V.

Oh Simon's. I've been going here since they've opened and the service keeps getting shittier and shittier. I must say that thankfully the food is still good. Breakfast at 7 pm? Yea why not! Not to mention their buffalo chicken wrap for lunch and their cream of chicken soup. Yea, I'll keep going.

    (4)
  • James A.

I'm a sucker for a place that always has cream of chicken soup on the menu. Plus it is really good and tasty. Brought back a large portion (and I mean large) back to my office for my colleague and he ate it all! I kept saying it was like a drug...you get easily addicted to the taste. :-D Food is good too and they give you big portions. Also a free dessert of a mini cup of ice cream at the end. Can't beat that.

About one notch above cafeteria food. It's a shame because the owners were very nice and its in a convenient location for us. We won't be back.

Ok--it's not that I was so terribly impressed by the food--I had a burger and fries and chocolate cream pie--they were decent enough. It was the service that I was so impressed by. Our waitress was so ON IT that I couldn't help be impressed. We were having a business meaning and we sat there forever and NO ONE batted an eye about it. In fact, when it was getting late and I started to yawn the waitress came up and gave me a cup of coffee without me even having to ask. She was so warm and attentive and friendly even though we closed the joint. It was like we were in the home of the perfect host or hostess. For THAT alone I would go back. Really above and beyond the call of service.

  • Alexandria G.

To make this quick and easy, our hostess, was also our waitress. She led us to a booth near the bathrooms, which wasn't that big of a deal.. But as soon as we sat down she expected us to know what we wanted, as first time guests and without even touching the menu yet, we asked her for a minute. To this, she rolled her eyes and gave us attitude. Throughout the night, she stopped by our table maybe 4 times. She led us there, came back for our order, checked in once & gave us the bill (Which was the same time). Our food wasn't very good either, we had one dish sent back for being too dry and over cooked. Along with that they were out of mashed potatoes, so she asked one person what they wanted as a replacement and brought it for three of us... (Without asking the other two if that's what we wanted) The man who checked us out, also gave us attitude.. Horrible, won't be back.. EVER

    (1)
  • Nicole I.

The food here is a bit overpriced for breakfast and lunch. They are very reluctant to bring out bread, and you sometimes need to ask, and then the waitress will bring it out. But the very last time I had lunch there, the server said that our salads (around $11.00) did not come with bread, and they usually charge extra but she was not going to charge us (thanks). Ok, and does anyone else have a problem with the older dude with the glasses that is usually working behind the register... A.K.A Mr. Smiley? Because this man has been so passively rude (best way to describe) on so many occasions that I no longer feel it is my imagination- will never go there again.

Great place if enjoy hospital food and are old. Menu is misleading and the waitress was rushing us. And for the record the turkey sandwich doesn't look anything like a sandwich. A bit pricey too.

My favorite greek family diner in the Lombard/villa park/westmont area. The fancy stuff that normally sucks, sucks. The breakfast is maybe a small step above reliable into the good category. Pretty good serving size and a fresh baked loaf of bread(though charged per person) give it the edge. The best part is they have the cream of chicken with rice soup 7 days a week! Oh yeah, and the koi pond outside is pretty stupid.

Tasty Greek diner food. Excellent service! Gave four out of five stars only because it seems a little pricey. Clam chowder on Fridays is devine!

Have found the service to be consistently good and the staff friendly. The food is very good and at once considered their food for the price to be one of the best, but prices have risen and they are not as inexpensive as they once were. Their serving size is large and have found the quality of the food to be better than most for breakfast which my wife and I have regularly had on weekends. Should mention the quality of their sausage links, patties, and bacon. In most restaurants the links are too greasy but not here. I enjoy both their sausage links and patties, and it is one of the few breakfast places I will order bacon. If you want a treat and want lunch, I would highly recommend their tripple decker BLT. It is superb and comes with a great soup. Their skillets are quite a treat, and have so much food I cannot finish all of it myself. The free fresh orange juice is a nice touch. I think this orange juice is freshly squeezed. This restaurant remains the favorite breakfast restaurant for my wife and myself.

Ive driven by this place a thousand times and finally went in for the first time. It was really nothing special, everything me and my family had was pretty good, but not enough for us to really want to come back any time soon. A plus was that we got soup and salad with the meal, and it was quick. Overall a pretty good family restaurant, a step up from Chilis/Applebees/TGI Fridays.

Got three slices of pie for carry out. All were good, but suggest letting them thaw before eating as they were almost frozen? from the case. Thick crust. Apple better than cherry. Cherry better than pumpkin. Good.

The food is usually good here although I think Simon's is a little pricey for what you get. I wouldn't bother complaining about the food though. The owner is set in his ways and can do no wrong. We've been going their 5 years and use to be regulars but we occasionally go back now. I do love their ribs for some reason, I pay about $16 for a full slab but I like it.

Some events make you hungrier than others. This was no exception last night when I found myself in the Lombard area after 10 PM hunting for food. Most of the restaurants were closed or just fast food. Quite by accident I stumbled into Simon's. Now, if you think that you will get a sit down dinner for $3.00 then you shouldn't eat out in the city. Arby's will cost you $7.00 - so expect to pay for parking (car or trousers). The menu covered a wide range of food and price offerings. Prices start around $4.69 and range up to just below twenty dollars for a meal. The portions are pretty big and the food quality is refreshing. An average meal seems to range around about nine-dollars a person. The wait staff was friendly and on the ball and ensured a pleasant dining experience. I would recommend them to anyone wondering the streets around Lombard to stop in and give them a try. Oh, and did I mention that they give free soft-serve ice cream samples at the end of the meal? Nice little extra even if the ice cream is your standard soft serve variety - can't complain when the cream is free ;)

    (4)
  • Martine F.

bleh ick spat DON'T GO TO SIMONS...even though they offer free soft serve. I think they re-serve the bread baskets... I just know it! I will say the only plus is the one really really really cute manager type there. So bottom line if you want NASTY food but good eye candy go to Simons. oh and I think the fountain pond thing in front is STUPID!

Simon's may be the best family restaurant in the area (although Omega in Lombard is right up there). I've been here a few times for both breakfast and lunch. Great food, with a much more interesting menu than you'll find at most Greek family restaurants. And you get a free tiny dish of ice cream to end your meal. What's not to love? The place looks like it might have been a Bob Evans once upon a time. The service can be a little slow, but never rude or I'm-putting-my-coat-on-and-leaving-in-a-huff slow. Be warned, the waits on Saturday and Sunday mornings can be killer.

Love it! I've only been here during the lunch hour and have been pleased every time. Service can be spotty, but isn't dismal, and the waitresses are sweet and everything America has come to expect from their dear, local family restaurant waitstaff. So what if I didn't get any refills - personality trumps service (this isn't Tru). Food. Yum. Get in my belly. Except there was one time when my grilled cheese was oozing grease from the grill and I nearly threw up in my lap but thats beside the point. French onion soup is to die for. Salads are also key. All in all Simon's is a keeper!

Okely-dokely, folks! I ended my five-year boycott of Simon's this morning, only to realize that a restaurant breaking bad on you is the same as breaking a mirror: you've got to wait the full seven years before the curse runs out! I walked out of this place in 2006 vowing never to return because a psycho waiter decided to slash at the hunk of prime rib he brought me cooked incorrectly for the SECOND time, like Tony Perkins in a shower stall. There were no apologies or offers of a properly cooked piece of beef, just rude remarks and snotty attitude (not all of which were mine, BTW.....) along with a doggy bag filled with $20 of a decidedly gray colored meat for my cats! BUT since I'm not one to hold a grudge for TOO long and figured "how bad can they muck up breakfast?" I once again allowed myself to be sucked into this vortex of bad taste. While my waiter this time was pleasant and friendly, there were four other people at my table who heard me say in a clear and distinct tone "Steak skillet, NO MUSHROOMS, eggs scrambled very, very dry!" Shall I go on, or shall I leave it up to your imaginations? I think the less said, the better, but needless to say I probably won't visit this hall of mirrors again. NOTE TO YELP: Please add a "Nothing" option in your "Good For" tips section below. It might prove helpful for certain establishments!

I visited them last night with my wife for a quick bite . The first clue we were in for an adventure is the hostess . I asked for a table for two and before we knew it she was off to the races ! She was at the other side of the restaurant before before I even blinked . We got to the general area where we think she might have been and found our table from the two menu's she left . That is just inexcusable and rude . Water came right away , waitress took our beverage order and was very friendly . We ordered breakfast for a late evening snack and it was ok . Now here is where I have my biggest problem , I took the check up to the front and nobody was there , took a few minutes and a older Greek man came over , took my bill without saying a word , ran my credit card again no conversation , handed me the slip to sign , again no conversation and gave me my card back when I signed the bill . I looked at him and clearly said " your welcome " he looked at me like I was from another world ! NEVER AGAIN ! Go to Omega in Downers Grove and you will see the exact opposite , a real great Greek restaurant , funny thing is that this is not the first time this has happened here , so shame on me - NOT ! !

This is a great local resturaunt. The prices are good and the servers are (usually) pretty good. They have a breakfast lunch and dinner menu, and i have enjoyed meals from all three. Simons is a very good family resturaunt.

I was at an event in Lombard last night I did not get out of the event until close to 9:30 pm. I was incredibly hungry. We searched for a place to eat. Finding a place to sit down and eat other than a fast food restaurant is nearly impossible. We did find one on Roosevelt Rd. The place was Simon's Restaurant, we were happy to find that they had good hour of operation they open at 6am and close at 12am. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The restaurant was clean. The owner was there, and in a pleasant mood, He was the one who seated us. Within moments our server was there to get our drink order. Then after the drinks arrived he was ready for our dinner order. The dinner platters come with a complementary bowl of soup and a potato offering of some kind. There was a surprise at the end of the meal for us there was a complementary ice cream. The prices are no worse than Denny's, and there was a much wider selection. I was over all satisfied with my experience at Simon's.

My Mom and I stopped at Simon's today for lunch-- we were lured in by the attractive building . . . what a mistake! This place is awful! I cant believe the good reviews. This place is absurdly overpriced-- I laughed out loud at the prices. Expect to pay what you would for upscale bar food. Except that the food is god-awful. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich . . . for nearly $9.00. It was two pieces of clearly old white bread with low-quality american cheese. The "complimentary" cream of chicken soup could hardly be called soup. It was a gelatinous mess that resembled sausage gravy (without the flavor). My Mom ordered the chicken philly sandwich. Unfortunately I cannot bring myself to describe it in detail. Suffice it to say the chicken was vile. The complimentary ice cream tasted rancid, and I suspect the machines are not properly maintained/cleaned. I think if you are kidnapped and forced to eat at this disgusting establishment you should definitely stick to breakfast.

Was in the burbs last night and needed to stop for a quick bite as it was late, and didn't want the usual fast food. Stopped at Simon's and was pleasently surprised. We were able to order dinner and breakfast (the others I was with wanted pancakes and eggs), and I ordered their baked ham. Not only was it timely it was freshly cooked, the green beans were fresh (not canned), the baked sweet potato cooked to perfection, and the soup (chicken and dumplings) awesome. The chocolate chip pancakes were huge , chips almost too plentiful, and fluffy. The meal was good, for a family restaurant, and the service (Karina) was outstanding.

I've been to Simon's before and have always enjoyed it, but yesterday my husband ordered the breaded pork tenderloin and he said it was terrible. Unfortunately he didn't tell me this until we were leaving, so no opportunity to complain while we were there. He didn't feel good the rest of the night.

Decent restaurant, good service, fair prices. Was really packed when we went, but we still got a table and good service. The kids meal we ordered was huge, for only 5 bucks! And they had kids cups with lids and bendy straws--a real plus! We got dessert to go, will update the review when we eat it!

  • Angela P.

I was reading some of the other reviews and can see where they are coming from as far as service. They don't have the best service in the world, but once they get to know your face that changes and you are definitely treated better. Not saying that is right, though, but it's the truth. I really like going here and when I lived in Villa Park, I probably went here close to once a week with friends for lunch. I really like their breakfast items and also their chicken salad, that I get rolled up in a tortilla with American cheese! Yummy! And also they have cream of chicken soup everyday for your enjoyment! And it is very good!! Just your typical family restaurant that is open very late! I believe even 24 hours on the weekends! Yay!

Simons used to be fantastic with great food, value and service but it may have new managers or something has gone wrong. We used to eat here a lot and now have switched to other similar places in the area. Once I saw a cockroach I was pretty much done with Simons. The staff has gone downhilll along with the food. Sad to see someplace that used to be great go downhill. I would not recommend it as there are better places nearby who have better food and service.

I went in on a Friday nite with two friends and didn't have to wait at all. We chose a booth and our waiter immediately came over and took our drink order and our dinner order. The soup was good and the hamburgers we ordered were very good for diner food. The service was good and the bill was reasonable. Simon's has a cool atmosphere, better than other diners I have been to. The overall look of the restaurant is very clean and its relaxing to dine here. It's a different diner experience. Try the fruit smoothies, too-they're awesome.

  • Pat J.

i think you might have the restaurant confused with another restaurant, Martine...Simon's doesn't have bread baskets, they serve bread by the loaf. I actually frequently dine there (I work near by) and have never had a bad meal. The food is always good.

  • Michael W.

Not a good first experience. Both the menu and decor reminded me of Village Inn or Denny's. I had the Denver omelette, which was ok. Service, on the other hand, was poor. We arrived for lunch at 1:00 pm on a Thursday, not the busiest time. First strike: the waiter did not keep drinks refilled. Not a big deal, normally. Except he also forgot to bring a bottle of hot sauce that was requested (he did realize he forgot after he cleared the table). Third strike: when he finally DID refill the drinks, he substituted diet Coke for regular Coke for two people! There are better options.

What sinks this place is the terrible service. My friend and I went there at 10pm for dinner, and there were maybe 3 or 4 other tables of people at the time. We were seated, given glasses and water, and the waitress brought us drinks. At that was the end of our service. We waited over a half hour for our waitress to come back but she completely ignored us and did other things instead of taking our order. Another couple came in later and our waitress served them right away. So we stormed out and went to Wendy's. I think Simon's would be a decent place if they actually served their customers.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
